What Volunteers Have Said
“Volunteering allows me to feel good about me again, that I have something to contribute to society and allows me to feel part of a community”
“Volunteering with the Islanders project has been great for me as I can be very quiet. I find having a volunteering role gives me a focus, whether it be prepping for teas/ coffee or serving at lunch groups. Physically having something to do makes it easier to chat to those attending as it somehow takes away some of the reserved nature I have.”
“I really like the sense of community in all the Islander events I have volunteered at”
“I would like to say thank you to the islanders for giving me the opportunity to volunteer with them. It came at a time when I was low in confidence as an incomer to the island, I did not know anyone and getting used to island life. I have got to know some lovely people, including other volunteers and people who use the service. I can now wave and have chats to people when out and about. Everyone is so friendly, and I feel volunteering has helped me become a lot more settled and part of the community”
